This is a prompt to do at any point before you go to bed tonight. You can spend 2 minutes on it or three hours. The idea is that you do it today.

It can be a drawing, a few notes of music, a story typed or told audibly, an animated gif, a collage, a grocery list… anything, as long as you made it.

You can interpret the prompt literally, figuratively, or any other way you please.

So, tell me about…

Castles in the sky

We used to live in a castle in the sky. It was beautiful and magical - a pastel-coloured dream.

One day we woke up from the dream and the castle was gone. We wandered for so long trying to find a new home, but nothing lived up to our beloved castle.

They say, though, that home is where the heart is and so we persevered, comforted by the knowledge that wherever we ended up at least we would be together.

We eventually made our home in a quiet valley. After searching for so long it was like paradise and we began to build an estate, a future, a home.

We came to love our valley which had its a beauty and magic all of its own.

I never forgot our castle, though. Sometimes I dream of it and when I wake up for a few moments I think I am still there, frolicking amount the clouds. But then the moonlight streams thruogh the window and I see the shadows cast by the tree outside and I my heart is broken anew as I remember that I will never go home again .

We have children now, and they play in the sunlight and roll on the grass and the air rings with the sound of their joyous laughter. This valley is the only home they have ever known.

They are happy, but as I watch them prance and gambol my breast fills up with a sense of desolation and pity at the fact that they will never know the true homeland of their people, the birthplace of their elders…

…the castle in the sky.

Fiendly Prompts 5

So, hey. It’s been a little bit. Okay it’s been 4 months. Whoops. Sorry about that. How about a prompt for old time’s sake?

Tell a story.

I think that as we get older the more important personal stories are. Anecdotes, misguided tales of adventure and that one story you always tell within 45 minutes of meeting someone. When your roommate walked into a stop sign, how you found the best restaurant that no one knows about or when you got chased out of the apple orchard. We spend our entire lives accruing these stories, there’s nothing better than sharing them with others.

So let’s share some stories. Draw a comic, take a picture, write some prose, a poem, a song, chalk drawings, just write down what happened, something…anything!

Tell a story.

Please reblog with a description (and drawing if you have one!) of one of your original characters. Not fan characters! I mean a character that you made up independently. I would like to hear about people’s work.
